ResumoA particular challenge in preventing sudden cardiac death is our limited means of identifying individuals, rather than populations, at risk. Genetic and molecular risk factors are among the new measures currently being explored. Until effective risk recognition and stratification methods are available, general prevention--including cardioprotective therapies and the widespread availability of automatic external defibrillators--remains important.
