ResumoDuring the 1960s and 1970s, the musical group “Os Originais do Samba” developed a particular sound based on male choir and on a strong percussion seeking to musically process a commercial purpose with a aesthetic authenticity. The group, led by humorist and sambista Mussum, achieved certain prominence in the music market of the period by participating in shows, recording albums and performing on television, but never got full recognition of music criticism. With its black male choir and the scenic performance of its percussive sound, “Os Originais” sedimented an aesthetic of samba that became inspiration for future generations who developed what later was known as “pagode”, initially with the group “Fundo de Quintal”, then with other groups of so-called “pagode of the 1990s".
