ResumoAs the previous bridge connecting Barajas with Paracuellos, on the 5th km of the road joining these villages, had been destroyed, a new one has been built. It is made of steel, has five spans, with a total length of 178.85 ms, has a 7 m wide pavement, and two 1.10 m wide sidewalks. The main feature of this bridge is a continuous girder, running over the three central spans, one 36.9 m long, and the other two 24.2 m each. This girder has a continuous web, of double T section. It has two halves, 6.2 ms apart, suitably linked together. The depth varies, and increases slightly over the central supports. The central piles rest on new foundations, consisting of caissons. The rest of the old foundations have been preserved. At the central pile the attachment is fixed, and on the two adjacent piles roller bearings have been fitted. At the end supports the deck structure rests on neoprene plates, 12 mm thick. To ensure the stability of the deck slab, a number of adequately spaced dilation joints have been provided.
