Resumo

In the twentieth century democratic societies experienced significant changes related to the strengthening of the active role of citizens and therecognition of the political rights of both adult women and men. The consolidation of democracy has also promoted the massive incorporation ofwomen into public and industrial activities. However, the media (especially the mass media) has not been sensitive to the important and noticeablechanges that have taken place in women's lives and in male-female relations, ignoring those changes in their approaches or underestimatingthem. This article highlights some of the mechanisms by which the media has not assumed its social responsibility regarding these developmentsin modern society.
