Resumo: Os valiosos aportes representados pelos recentes estudos de historia do jornalismo sul-americano permitem que se possa obter, por meio de um trabalho de investigacao cientifica que agregue e aprofunde as pesquisas ja realizadas, uma visao mais abrangente sobre a trajetoria historica da imprensa no chamado Cone Sul – Brasil, Argentina, Paraguai e Uruguai -, tentando superar o carater fragmentado e pontual que caracteriza muitas abordagens produzidas. Na analise das origens do jornalismo nessa regiao, evidenciam-se algumas semelhancas que persistem mesmo no inicio da segunda decada do novo milenio. As relacoes vitais entre imprensa e poder, sobretudo a partir dos movimentos emancipacionistas, perduram, em maior ou menor grau, entre as nacoes sul-americanas. Abstract: The valuable contributions represented by recent studies of the history of the South American journalism allow obtain through a scientific research that aggregates and deepen the studies already conducted, a more comprehensive view on the historical trajectory of the press on the called the Southern Cone - Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay - trying to overcome the fragmented character and specific that characterizes many approaches produced. The analysis of the origins of journalism in this region revealed some similarities that persist, even in the beginning of the second decade of the new millennium. The vital relations between press and power, especially since the emancipation movements, persist, to a greater or lesser extent, between the South American nations.
