ResumoThe generic name Urushtenia was proposed by Licharew with Productus pseudo-medusa Tschernyschew as its genotype, including a group of external homeomorphs ofStropholosina Licharew. This genus is widespread in Eurasia and ranges from LowerCarboniferous(?) to Upper Permian. The Chinese specimens that appear to be congeneric with Productus pseudomedusaTschernyschew have been described by Kayser,Loczy,Girty,Chao and Grabau as Pro-ductus mexicanus,Productus sp.,Productus? sp.,Productus rhychonelloides,Marginiferaobscura and Marginifera cf.timanica.In recent years,we have obtained hundreds goodspecimens of the genus Urushtenia from numerous localities in China. These specimensrepresent four species and one subspecies, among which two species and the subspeciesare new.Detailed study of their shell-shape,ornamentation and internal structuresshows that this genus is externally homeomorphous with Uncinulid genera in some de-gree.Within the suborder Productidea,Urushtenia is closely related to the genera Plica-tifera Chao,Jakutoproductus Kashirichev,Spinomarginifera Huang and Alexania E.Ivanova.These genera appear to represent a lineage of phylogenetic development ofProductid, which is apparently distinct from the Avonia-series and the Productus-serier.Inthis paper,a new family,Urushtenidae,is proposed for the reception of these genera.
