ResumoFlexible fiberoptic endoscopy has an integral role in the management of colonic pseudo-obstruction and volvulus. Colonoscopic decompression is the primary method for diagnosis and treatment of colonic pseudo-obstruction. Some patients require repeat endoscopic decompression, but few require tube cecostomy. In the case of sigmoid volvulus, endoscopic examination is useful as a temporizing measure to allow preparation of the colon and patient for elective definitive operative treatment.
