Clinical observation of duragesic and controlled-release morphine sulfate in treatment of cancer pain

ResumoObjective To compare the efficacy and side effects of transdermal fentanyl (duragesic) and controlled-release morphine sulfate (MST) in the treatment of cancer pain. Methods Sixty patients with cancer pain were randomly divided into duragesic regimen group and MST regimen group, there are 30 patients per group. To adjust the dosage of the medicine for pain intensity. The efficacy and the side effects were observed. Results The result showed that the pain remission rate of treatment for durogesic was 90.0%, and for MST was 93.3% ( P0.05).The side effects included dizziness,nauaea,vomiting,constipation and difficult urination. The side effects of duragesi were mild. Conclusion Durogesic display a comparable or slightly superior efficiency and safety profile for the management of cancer pain, and is more suitable for adult and children cancer pain cases who are unable to take oral opioids .
