Resumo: A hagiografia do periodo e da sociedade merovingia afirma, entre outras coisas, que os bens monopolizados pela instituicao eclesiastica indicam o caminho e o comportamento esperado para se atingir a salvacao como algo unico para superar as dificuldades terrestres e adquirir o direito de um julgamento favoravel nesta vida, bem como a legitimacao do poder episcopal junto a qualquer outro poder a que queria fazer frente. Neste sentido, procura-se aqui analisar como os bispos, os controladores desse “mercado” simbolico, utilizaram o discurso hagiografico para afirmaram-se enquanto autoridade religiosa e civil. A bstract: The hagiography of Merovingian period and society says, among other things, that wealth monopolized by the ecclesiastical institution indicate the path and the expected behavior to achieve salvation as something unique to overcome earthy difficulties and acquire the right to a favorable judgment in this life, as well as the legitimacy of episcopal power with any other power that wanted to attack. In this sense, we analyzed how the bishops, the controllers of this symbolic market used hagiographic discourse to secure their religious and civil authority. Keywords: Hagiography. Political Power.
