ResumoAim: to describe the patient characteristics and the stage-specific treatment for patients diagnosed with HCC in the new Klinikum Klagenfurt am Wörthersee (KKW) between 2010 – 2015. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the patients diagnosed with HCC at KKW between 2010 – 2015. The HCC diagnosis was established by histology or specific imaging techniques (CT or MRI). Patients were classified according to Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system and treatment decisions were routinely taken by an institutional gastroenterologic-surgical-oncological interdisciplinary tumor board. Results: We identified 82 patients diagnosed with HCC in this time period, with a mean age of 69 ± 6.9 years. Most of the patients were male (74.4%) and in 74/82 patients (90.2%) the HCC occurred in a cirrhotic liver. The HCC diagnosis was established by histology in 39% of patients, the rest with radiology only. The etiology of liver disease was: alcoholic 35.5% of cases, chronic hepatits C-21.9%, chronic hepatitis B-6.1%, other-10.9%, crytogenic – 6.1% and unspecified (probably a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver disease) – 19.5%. According to BCLC staging system the patients were classified as: stage A-21 patients (25.6%), stage B-31 patients (37.8%), stage C-21 patients (25.6%) and stage D-9 patients (11%). The first line therapy according to BCLC stage was:
