Objective To observe the tumorostatic activity of aqueous extracts of nux vomica and rhizoma arisaematis on transplanted tumor H22 in mice, and reveal the rationality of using the two medicines in clinical tumor therapy. Methods Mice of Kunming species which had got the transplanted tumor H22 were divided randomly into four groups:the control group, cyclophosphamide group,high-dose trial group, and low-dose trial group. All of the mice received the medicines through gavage;tumorostatic activities,as well as the changes of animal weights and their immune organ's weight were recorded. Results Cyclophosphamide group had a tumorostatic rate 56.6%(P0.01),but meanwhile an evident inhibitory effect on the thymus gland, spleen, and body weight was seen.High-dose trial group had a tumorostatic rate 38.9%(P0.05);low-dose trial group showed no noticeable effect;there were no evident changes in animal weights and their immune organs in the two trial groups. Conclusion Aqueous extracts of nux vomica and rhizoma arisaematis in a certain dosage show a marked inhibitory effect on the murine transplanted tumor H22,no harm to their immune organs, implying that using these Chinese medicines in clinical tumor therapy is rational.
