Resumo

The structure of the palate and lower jaw of the Jurassic sauropod Diplodocus is described. The controversy raised over a half century ago by W. J. Holland's claim that O. C. Marsh attributed the wrong skull to Apatosaurus (= Brontosaurus) is reviewed in light of new information. It seems very probable that the skull of Apatosaurus is Diplodocus-like as Holland suggested and not Camarasaurus-like as shown in the long accepted, original restorations published by Marsh late in the 19th century.
