Analisa as razoes da criacao, a reorganizacao e acoes do Instituto Nacional do Pinho (INP), em 1941, e sua atuacao no Oeste catarinense ate 1967, contextualizando-as historicamente. Ampara-se na analise dos Decretos-lei de criacao e regulamentacao, no acervo de jornais da epoca, em documentos relacionados as empresas madeireiras e em referenciais bibliograficos. O extrativismo da madeireira constituiu significativa atividade economica em torno da qual parte da sociedade regional se organizou. A colonizacao, tambem marcada pela politica de Vargas (1930-1945), que intentava ocupar ‘os sertoes’ brasileiros, efetivou a conquista de grandes areas na regiao. The National Institute of Pine and the timber industry in the west of Santa Catarina ABSTRACT Analyzes the reasons for the creation, reorganization and actions of Pine of the National Institute - INP in 1941 and its operations in the West of Santa Catarina until 1967, contextualizing them historically. Uphold the analysis of the Decree-Law of creation and regulation based on collection of newspapers of the time, documents related to timber companies and bibliographic references. Timber extraction was a significant economic activity around which part of the regional society is organized. Colonization also marked by Vargas policy (1930-1945), that intended to occupy the Brazilian “hinterland”, led to the conquest of large areas in the region. Keywords : National Institute of Pine.
