ResumoThe paper examines in detail two cases of political language in Italy: the "Stop ai clandestini" (Stop the clandestine") speech delivered by Umberto Bossi, the leader of the Lega Nord Party, and the so-called "Contratto con gli Italiani" (Agreement with Italians), an agreement virtually stipulated by Berlusconi during a television programme, before the elections of June 2001. The methodological framework applied to the study of political language is that of politolinguistics, a particular form of analysis having a strong interdisciplinary orientation in connection with political philosophy, sociology, political science, history and social psychology, integrating the linguistic perspective and the critical discourse analysis.
