During the past ten years,urbanization process in China has moved away from the principle of gradualism and displayed an emerging trend of impetu- osity and rash advance.Excessively high growth rate of urbanization level and the consequent spatial sprawl had brought about severe damage to the healthy develop- ment of China's urbanization process,the appropriate utilization and protection of resources as well as societal stability.This paper analyzes the reasons underlying such problems and puts forward both objectives and policy recommendations for promoting urbanization process on a gradual and resource-saving basis.
