Qi Baishi (1864~1957),a great modern Chinese painter, was born in Xiangtan,Hunan Province. His favorite motifs included plants, flowers, fish, shrimps and insects. He inherited the style of traditional Chinese painting and folk art. He often used free brush strokes to paint flowers and plants, and using meticulous line and detail to paint insects. He blended the two techniques fabulously. This paper introduces insect paintings by Qi Baishi and interrelated philatelic items.
