Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of electro-acupuncture on Dazhui(GV14) and Baihui(GV20) in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease(AD). Methods: 72 patients with AD were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 36 cases in each group. Patients in treatment group were treated by eletro-acupuncture on Dazhui(GV14) and Baihui(GV20), once a day, lasting for 6 days and pause one day, in total of 12 weeks. Patients in control group were treated with donepezil hydrochloride tablets by oral at 5mg at bedtime for the first 4 weeks, then 10 mg for the last 8 weeks. The mini mental status scale(MMSE) and life ability of Barthel index scale(ADL) were used to examine before and after the treatment. The clinical effect was evaluated after the treatment. Results: The total effective rate was 83.33% in the treatment group and 75.00% in the control group, with significant differences between the two groups(P0.05). Compared with before treatment, the scores of MMSE and ADL after treatment were significantly improved in both groups(P0.01), and the degree of improvement in the treatment group was superior to that in control group(P0.05). Conclusion: Electro-acupuncture on Dazhui(GV14) and Baihui(GV20) can improve the cognitive function and the ability of daily life in patients with AD, which is effective and deserve promotion.
