ResumoParkinson's disease is a multi-systems neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by a combination of motor and non-motor symptoms. Non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease comprise a variety of cognitive, neuropsychiatric, autonomic, sensory, and sleep complaints. Although sleep disruption represents one of the most common non-motor symptom complaints among Parkinson's disease patients, recommendations regarding effective evaluation and management strategies for this specific population remain limited. This review gives an evidence based summary of the available treatment options and management strategies for the sleep complaints commonly encountered by patients with Parkinson's disease.
