Failure of the operation to relieve stress incontinence was unusual in 346 patients followed for a minimum of 2 years. Of the total group of patients with stress incontinence 27 per cent also had detrusor instability identified urodynamically preoperatively. However, identification of the syndrome is of limited prognostic significance since the majority of these patients had no difficulty with the syndrome postoperatively and some other patients appeared to have the syndrome only postoperatively. © 1980 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byRodriguez A, Hakky T, Hoffman M, Ordorica R and Lockhart J (2010) Salvage Spiral Sling Techniques: Alternatives to Manage Disabling Recurrent Urinary Incontinence in FemalesJournal of Urology, VOL. 184, NO. 6, (2429-2433), Online publication date: 1-Dec-2010.WILSON T, LEMACK G and ZIMMERN P (2018) Management of Intrinsic Sphincteric Deficiency in WomenJournal of Urology, VOL. 169, NO. 5, (1662-1669), Online publication date: 1-May-2003.TAKI N, TANIGUCHI T, OKADA K, MORIYAMA N and MURAMATSU I (2018) EVIDENCE FOR PREDOMINANT MEDIATION OF α1-ADRENOCEPTOR IN THE TONUS OF ENTIRE URETHRA OF WOMENJournal of Urology, VOL. 162, NO. 5, (1829-1832), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1999.HSU T, RACKLEY R and APPELL R (2018) THE SUPINE STRESS TEST: A SIMPLE METHOD TO DETECT INTRINSIC URETHRAL SPHINCTER DYSFUNCTIONJournal of Urology, VOL. 162, NO. 2, (460-463), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1999.CHOE J, GALLO M and STASKIN D (2018) A PROVOCATIVE MANEUVER TO ELICIT CYSTOMETRIC INSTABILITY: MEASURING INSTABILITY AT MAXIMUM INFUSIONJournal of Urology, VOL. 161, NO. 5, (1541-1544), Online publication date: 1-May-1999.CHAIKIN D, ROSENTHAL J and BLAIVAS J (2018) PUBOVAGINAL FASCIAL SLING FOR ALL TYPES OF STRESS URINARY INCONTINENCE: LONG-TERM ANALYSISJournal of Urology, VOL. 160, NO. 4, (1312-1316), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1998.Zaragoza M (2018) Expanded Indications for the Pubovaginal Sling: Treatment of Type 2 or 3 Stress IncontinenceJournal of Urology, VOL. 156, NO. 5, (1620-1622), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1996.Haab F, Zimmern P and Leach G (2018) Female Stress Urinary Incontinence Due to Intrinsic Sphincteric Deficiency: Recognition and ManagementJournal of Urology, VOL. 156, NO. 1, (3-17), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1996.Faerber G (2018) Endoscopic Collagen Injection Therapy in Elderly Women with Type I Stress Urinary IncontinenceJournal of Urology, VOL. 155, NO. 2, (512-514), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1996.Foster H and McGuire E (2018) Management of Urethral Obstruction with Transvaginal UrethrolysisJournal of Urology, VOL. 150, NO. 5 Part 1, (1448-1451), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1993.Lotenfoe R, O’kelly J, Helal M and Lockhart J (2018) Periurethral Polytetrafluoroethylene Paste Injection in Incontinent Female Subjects: Surgical Indications and Improved Surgical TechniqueJournal of Urology, VOL. 149, NO. 2, (279-282), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1993.Walker G and Texter J (2018) Success and Patient Satisfaction following the Stamey Procedure for Stress Urinary IncontinenceJournal of Urology, VOL. 147, NO. 6, (1521-1523), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1992.Blaivas J (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 144, NO. 1, (108-108), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1990.Lockhart J, Ellis G, Helal M and Pow-Sang J (2018) Combined Cystourethropexy for the Treatment of Type 3 and Complicated Female Urinary IncontinenceJournal of Urology, VOL. 143, NO. 4, (722-725), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1990.Raz S (2018) Editorial CommentJournal of Urology, VOL. 142, NO. 4, (1038-1039), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1989.Mcguire E, Letson W and Wang S (2018) Transvaginal Urethrolysis after Obstructive Urethral Suspension ProceduresJournal of Urology, VOL. 142, NO. 4, (1037-1038), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1989.Blaivas J and Olsson C (2018) Stress Incontinence: Classification and Surgical ApproachJournal of Urology, VOL. 139, NO. 4, (727-731), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1988.Spencer J, O’Conor V and Schaeffer A (2018) A Comparison of Endoscopic Suspension of the Vesical Neck With Suprapubic Vesicourethropexy for Treatment of stress Urinary IncontinenceJournal of Urology, VOL. 137, NO. 3, (411-415), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1987.Green D, McGuire E and Lytton B (2018) A Comparison of Endoscopic Suspension of the Vesical Neck versus Anterior Urethropexy for the Treatment of Stress Urinary IncontinenceJournal of Urology, VOL. 136, NO. 6, (1206-1208), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1986.Pow-Sang J, Lockhart J, Suarez A, Lansman H and Politano V (2018) Female Urinary Incontinence: Preoperatiye Selection, Surgical Complications and ResultsJournal of Urology, VOL. 136, NO. 4, (831-833), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1986.
