Resumo

AbstractThe implications of the mass entertainment industry for the development of indigenous Asian cultures is examined as this form of entertainment has been most influential in Asian societes. It has been seen to have an undesirable impact on indigenous Asian cultures.Several reasons have been forwarded as to why Third World countries have to rely largely on foreign programmes to fill TV slots. But there is no need to be over pessimistic about the influence of this foreign fare. Mass entertainment can be seen as a way to bind the various sub-cultures of Asia’s plural societies.
