Resumo

Plain films and barium studies of the gastrointestinal tract are usually not sufficient for diagnosis of pancreatic disease but need to be supplemented by some of the newer imaging modalities, which include selective pancreatic angiography, ultrasonography, and computerized tomography (CT). Nuclear medicine studies, endoscopic retrograde cannulation of the pancreas, and thin needle percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTHC) have a more limited role in diagnosis of pancreatic lesions. Ultrasonography, CT scanning, and PTHC are also used in percutaneous transabdominal biopsy of the pancreas and the more recent transductal core biopsy.
