ResumoDespite the availability of anticoagulant drugs for many years, there are still controversies regarding their use in many cardiovascular conditions. In this article, the pharmacology of warfarin and heparin are reviewed, and the clinical applications of these therapies in patients with valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation, or both, discussed.
