ResumoColitis encompasses a spectrum of disorders, each with its own natural history and therapy. In the elderly, the relative prevalence of these entities is markedly different than in younger patients, with infectious colitis the most common type, followed by antibiotic-associated disease and ischemic colitis. The last is rarely recurrent and half of the episodes resolve spontaneously.
