Resumo

One of the great evils of the population is the waiting time for treatment where they are needed surgical procedures. The objectives of this study were the identification, evaluation and optimization of the surgical queuing system, proposing solutions to assist the management in order to reduce waiting time for patients in surgery queues and propose a solution that optimizes the use of materials, budget and human resources. The queuing theory is a mathematical approach that seeks to analyze the dynamics of the queuing system flow. Initially a survey was conducted on the procedures and hospital protocols used in the intake sector. Then, the logical model of queues and optimization algorithms were created and validated. Finally, the control parameters of the flow of patients could be adjusted by customizing solutions to the reality of the Surgery Service. Various service bottlenecks were identified and some procedures have been changed based on the preliminary findings. Among them, the possibility of inpatient can be operated by any medical staff and not just who made the first call. This study demonstrates that the adoption of single file, with the possibility of easing FIFO policy, in some cases, reduces the average waiting time in the queue. Other treatment protocols are being studied and analyzed the adaptability of optimization algorithms. The large number of patients waiting for medical care is one of the major ills of the Brazilian Unified Health System. Wait a surgery for years brings an intangible suffering from the standpoint of the health system manager. With the proposed model it was possible to provide a management tool, that can be used in the Elective Surgery System, increasing the efficiency of the service and reducing the waiting time in lines and the suffering and distress of patients.
