Stone disease in children often is metabolic or infectious in origin and multiple surgical procedures during a long interval may be required. Therefore, percutaneous stone removal could be particularly advantageous in these patients. We have performed percutaneous stone removal successfully in 7 children, none of whom required a second procedure or were discharged from the hospital with a nephrostomy tube. © 1985 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByAldaqadossi H, Khairy Salem H, Kotb Y, Hussein H, Shaker H and Dikaios N (2018) Prediction of Pediatric Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy Outcomes Using Contemporary Scoring SystemsJournal of Urology, VOL. 198, NO. 5, (1146-1152), Online publication date: 1-Nov-2017.Çıtamak B, Altan M, Bozacı A, Koni A, Doğan H, Bilen C, Şahin A and Tekgül S (2015) Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Children: 17 Years of ExperienceJournal of Urology, VOL. 195, NO. 4 Part 1, (1082-1087), Online publication date: 1-Apr-2016.Önal B, Dogan H, Satar N, Bilen C, Güneş A, Özden E, Ozturk A, Demirci D, İstanbulluoğlu O, Gurocak S, Nazli O, Tanriverdi O, Kefi A, Korgali E, Silay M, Inci K, İzol V, Altintas R, Kilicarslan H, Sarikaya S, Yalcin V, Aygun C, Gevher F, Aridogan I and Tekgul S (2018) Factors Affecting Complication Rates of Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Children: Results of a Multi-Institutional Retrospective Analysis by the Turkish Pediatric Urology SocietyJournal of Urology, VOL. 191, NO. 3, (777-782), Online publication date: 1-Mar-2014.Onal B, Dogan C, Citgez S, Argun B, Onder A, Sever L, Caliskan S, Canpolat N, Tasdemir M and Erozenci A (2018) Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Children with Cystine Stone: Long-Term Outcomes from a Single InstitutionJournal of Urology, VOL. 190, NO. 1, (234-238), Online publication date: 1-Jul-2013.Bilen C, Gunay M, Ozden E, Inci K, Sarikaya S and Tekgul S (2018) Tubeless Mini Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Infants and Preschool Children: A Preliminary ReportJournal of Urology, VOL. 184, NO. 6, (2498-2503), Online publication date: 1-Dec-2010.El-Nahas A, Shokeir A, El-Kenawy M, Shoma A, Eraky I, El-Assmy A, Ghaly A and El-Kappany H (2018) Safety and Efficacy of Supracostal Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Pediatric PatientsJournal of Urology, VOL. 180, NO. 2, (676-680), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2008.Bilen C, Koçak B, Kıtırcı G, Özkaya O and Sarıkaya Ş (2018) Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Children: Lessons Learned in 5 Years at a Single InstitutionJournal of Urology, VOL. 177, NO. 5, (1867-1871), Online publication date: 1-May-2007.CASALE P, GRADY R, JOYNER B, ZELTSER I, KUO R and MITCHELL M (2018) TRANSPERITONEAL LAPAROSCOPIC PYELOLITHOTOMY AFTER FAILED PERCUTANEOUS ACCESS IN THE PEDIATRIC PATIENTJournal of Urology, VOL. 172, NO. 2, (680-683), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2004.DAWABA M, SHOKEIR A, HAFEZ A, SHOMA A, EL-SHERBINY M, MOKHTAR A, ERAKY I, EL-KENAWY M and EL-KAPPANY H (2018) PERCUTANEOUS NEPHROLITHOTOMY IN CHILDREN: EARLY AND LATE ANATOMICAL AND FUNCTIONAL RESULTSJournal of Urology, VOL. 172, NO. 3, (1078-1081), Online publication date: 1-Sep-2004.TRAXER O, SMITH T, PEARLE M, CORWIN T, SABOORIAN H and CADEDDU J (2018) RENAL PARENCHYMAL INJURY AFTER STANDARD AND MINI PERCUTANEOUS NEPHROSTOLITHOTOMYJournal of Urology, VOL. 165, NO. 5, (1693-1695), Online publication date: 1-May-2001.BADAWY H, SALAMA A, EISSA M, KOTB E, MORO H and SHOUKRI I (2018) PERCUTANEOUS MANAGEMENT OF RENAL CALCULI: EXPERIENCE WITH PERCUTANEOUS NEPHROLITHOTOMY IN 60 CHILDRENJournal of Urology, VOL. 162, NO. 5, (1710-1713), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1999.AL-SHAMMARI A, AL-OTAIBI K, LEONARD M and HOSKING D (2018) PERCUTANEOUS NEPHROLITHOTOMY IN THE PEDIATRIC POPULATIONJournal of Urology, VOL. 162, NO. 5, (1721-1724), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1999.Mor Y, Elmasry Y, Kellett M and Duffy P (2018) The Role of Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in the Management of Pediatric Renal CalculiJournal of Urology, VOL. 158, NO. 3, (1319-1321), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1997.Callaway T, Lingardh G, Basata S and Sylven M (2018) Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in ChildrenJournal of Urology, VOL. 148, NO. 3 Part 2, (1067-1068), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1992.Kroovand R (2018) Stones in Pregnancy and in ChildrenJournal of Urology, VOL. 148, NO. 3 Part 2, (1076-1078), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1992.Sigman M, Laudone V, Jenkins A, Howards S, Riehle R, Keating M and Dixon Walker R (2018) Initial Experience with Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy in ChildrenJournal of Urology, VOL. 138, NO. 4 Part 1, (839-841), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1987.
