ResumoNecrotising fasciitis is a disease with an estimated incidence of 0.24–0.4 per 100,000. It is known by clinicians and the public as "flesh eating bacteria" and is associated with high morbidity and a mortality of up to 76%.1 The presentation of necrotising fasciitis can be insidious and non-specific. Gangrene ultimately develops with associated pyrexia and septic shock over 24–72 h.2 Early recognition and aggressive treatment with antimicrobials and surgical debridement improves outcomes.
