Several modifications of surgical technique have been devised to prevent problems of urinary leakage and difficulties in catheterization. The current technique, used during the last 3 years on 14 patients, involves use of a detubularized right colonic segment as a reservoir, ileal mesenteric exclusion, fashioning the intussuscepted ileal nipple valve with staples and anchoring of a fascia strip sling around the nipple base to the anterior rectus sheath. Complication from the reservoir outlet occurred in only 1 patient. © 1990 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByMartins F, Bennett C and Skinner D (2018) Options in Replacement Cystoplasty Following Radical Cystectomy: High Hopes or Successful RealityJournal of Urology, VOL. 153, NO. 5, (1363-1372), Online publication date: 1-May-1995.Sagalowsky A (2018) Early Results with Split-Cuff Nipple Ureteral Reimplants in Urinary DiversionJournal of Urology, VOL. 154, NO. 6, (2028-2031), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1995.Hubner W and Pfluger H (2018) Case Reports: Functional Replacement of Bladder and Urethra After Cystectomy for Bladder Cancer in a Female PatientJournal of Urology, VOL. 153, NO. 3S, (1043-1046), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1995.Davidsson T, Åkerlund S, Forssell-Aronsson E, Kock N and Månsson W (2018) Absorption of Sodium and Chloride in Continent Reservoirs for Urine: Comparison of Ileal and Colonic ReservoirsJournal of Urology, VOL. 151, NO. 2, (335-337), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1994.Davidsson T, Barker S and Månsson W (2018) Tapering of Intussuscepted Ileal Nipple Valve or Ileocecal Valve to Correct Secondary Incontinence in Patients with Urinary ReservoirJournal of Urology, VOL. 147, NO. 1, (144-146), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1992.
