ResumoGlutathione peroxidase activity and selenium concentration were measured in blood samples taken from 80 sheep and 94 cattle. The activity of this enzyme in erythrocytes was shown to be positively related (P < 0 · 001) to the blood selenium concentration in both species. However, the regression coefficient relating these variables was significantly greater (P < 0 · 001) in sheep than in cattle. The enzyme appeared to be stable for up to six days in erythrocytes stored at − 15°C and in blood stored at 10°C.
