ResumoRESEARCHER: As you already know, the study in which you are about to take part is concerned with social interaction. Your task will be a simple one. Ten strangers are seated in the next room. I want you to go in there and remove your clothing, one article at a time, until you are completely nude. We're interested in studying your reactions to this situation. SUBJECT (Visibly shaken): Gee, I never expected anything like that. I thought that the study would involve a group discussion, or filling out some questionnaires. RESEARCHER: When you volunteered for this experiment, you agreed to cooperate. It's necessary that you follow my instructions. SUBJECT: Well, I'm kind of shy, and it's just that . . RESEARCHER (Becoming angry and abrupt): Stop wasting my valuable time. I have better things to do than argue with you. Let's get started.
