ResumoPoly-d-glutamic acid isolated from the culture medium ofBac. subtilis was converted to the corresponding polyamide and then subjected toHofmann degradation and acid hydrolysis. The amount of formed β-formylpropionic acid suggests such a predominancy of the γ-glutamyl bonds that an eventual presence of α-glutamyl bonds hardly requires further consideration.
