Resumo

ABSTRACT The T phases recorded at Bermuda from sixteen earthquakes are examined. The mode of propagation and the propagation paths of the phases are discussed, special attention being paid to the area of entrance into the water and the velocity through the rock. It is shown that the P phase, as it advances from the deep ocean toward a steep slope, is transformed to the T phase. It is also shown that Lg is sometimes transformed to the T phase. Two phases recorded at Palisades, Halifax, and Ottawa are examined and it is shown that the phases observed at these stations result from transformation of a T phase to a phase traveling through the continent with a velocity of about 3.5 km/sec.
