Research methods based on this cerebral laterality have been used to investigate regional brain function in psychiatric illness. The author describes the functional and anatomic differences between the two sides of the brain, the research methods based on these differences, and the results of studies that have used these methods to investigate brain dysfunction in psychiatric illness.
