ResumoManagement of the patient with sickle cell disease during pregnancy requires intimate knowledge of the patient and her clinical status before pregnancy. The obstetrician must thus seek the cooperation of the patient’s family physician or hematologist. An occasional patient reaches her teens before the diagnosis is made. No matter when it is discovered, the implications of the diagnosis for the patient’s own health and that of her progeny must be made clear to the parents.
