ResumoN-Substituted 3-glucosyloxy-2-methyl-4-pyridones were synthesized from natural maltol glucoside (III) and primary amines. Aliphatic amines reacted readily with (III) in aqueous methanol under reflux, while aromatic amines required the addition of potassium hydroxide as a catalyst. The aglycones, N-substituted 3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-pyridones, were obtained by acid hydrolysis of the above pyridone glucosides.
