ResumoGastroplasty for the treatment of morbid obesity has developed over the last 20 years from inconsistent suture technique operations to precisely constructed procedures. To date, the best results are achieved with the most recently developed techniques, vertical (mesh) banded gastroplasty, and silicone elastomer ring vertical gastroplasty. These operations produce a 33 to 37 per cent weight loss at 2 years with a failure rate of 6 to 8 per cent.
