ResumoHormonal changes during pregnancy include an increase in prolactin secretion and decreases in gonadotropins and growth hormone. Enlargement of pituitary tumors, especially prolactin-secreting macroadenomas, may occur rarely and may require bromocryptine treatment, surgical treatment, or both. Hypopituitarism is usually the result of antepartum or postpartum hemorrhage or lymphocytic hypophysitis. A pregnancy-specific form of diabetes insipidus that is treated with dDAVP, an analogue that is resistant to placental vasopressinase, may occur.
