There were 87 ureters repaired in 52 children. Complete followup was obtained in all cases. The operative success rate was 94.2 per cent. The postoperative complication rate was 11 per cent. None of the failures or complications seemed to be directly related to the omission of catheters. The routine omission of catheters decreased postoperative discomfort and markedly shortened the hospital stay. © 1981 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byDewan P (2018) Re: Use of Pediatric Open, Laparoscopic and Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Ureteral Reimplantation in the United States: 2000 to 2012Journal of Urology, VOL. 197, NO. 1, (265-266), Online publication date: 1-Jan-2017.DUONG D, PAREKH D, POPE J, ADAMS M and BROCK J (2018) Ureteroneocystostomy Without Urethral Catheterization Shortens Hospital Stay Without Compromising Postoperative SuccessJournal of Urology, VOL. 170, NO. 4 Part 2, (1570-1573), Online publication date: 1-Oct-2003.MILLER O, BLOOM T, SMITH L, Mc ALEER I, KAPLAN G and KOLON T (2018) Early Hospital Discharge for Intravesical UreteroneocystostomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 167, NO. 6, (2556-2559), Online publication date: 1-Jun-2002.Fort K, Selman S and Kropp K (2018) A Retrospective Analysis of the Use of Ureteral Stents in Children Undergoing UreteroneocystotomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 129, NO. 3, (545-546), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1983.Anderson E (2018) Editorial CommentJournal of Urology, VOL. 129, NO. 3, (546-547), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1983.
