Bladder instability and/or bladder sphincter dyssynergia was encountered in 74 children. Pharmacologic manipulation of detrusor and sphincter function and biofeedback therapy were highly successful. Routine and random urethral dilation, urethrotomy and fulguration, and/or resection of ill-defined urethral obstructions is unwarranted. Rational treatment requires individualization based upon an objective evaluation by thorough and careful urodynamic testing. © 1981 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byHERZ D, WEISER A, COLLETTE T, REDA E, LEVITT S and FRANCO I (2018) DYSFUNCTIONAL ELIMINATION SYNDROME AS AN ETIOLOGY OF IDIOPATHIC URETHRITIS IN CHILDHOODJournal of Urology, VOL. 173, NO. 6, (2132-2137), Online publication date: 1-Jun-2005.Seruca H (2018) Vesicoureteral Reflux and Voiding Dysfunction: A Prospective StudyJournal of Urology, VOL. 142, NO. 2 Part 2, (494-498), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1989.Hinman F (2018) Nonneurogenic Neurogenic Bladder (The Hinman Syndrome)–15 Years LaterJournal of Urology, VOL. 136, NO. 4, (769-777), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1986.Homsy Y, Nsouli I, Hamburger B, Laberge I and Schick E (2018) Effects of Oxybutynin on Vesicoureteral Reflux in ChildrenJournal of Urology, VOL. 134, NO. 6, (1168-1171), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1985.
