ResumoGASTROINTESTINAL endoscopy has developed rapidly in the past 15 years. Marked advances have been made in equipment for diagnosis and therapeutic procedures as well as for documentation with still and motion pictures, television, and video-tape recordings. The purpose of this brief review, therefore, is to describe the indications and assess the likely results of endoscopy of the upper gut, including visual examination of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, and the jejunum and ileum (enteroscopy).
