ResumoRight ventricular (RV) failure has been recently identified as an important cause of progressive deterioration in patients with cardiac or cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Volume loading and pharmacologic interventions may have a limited effect in patients with severe RV failure. Mechanical circulatory assistance may be required to sustain right heart function until the heart and lungs can recover. Recent advances in the technology of cardiopulmonary bypass have produced systems which will permit recovery of RV failure after cardiac surgery. These systems may be adapted to treat critically ill patients who have not undergone cardiac surgery.KeywordsRight VentricleCentrifugal PumpRight Ventricle FunctionRight Ventricle DysfunctionRight Ventricle FailureThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
