They appear to be finger-like prostatic hyperplastic protrusions in the prostatic urethra. Different histologic forms described may be, in fact, variations of similar structures. The polyps are benign and do not require treatment if not symptomatic. © 1981 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByTA S, KLAUSNER A, SAVAGE S, UNGER P and BAR-CHAMA N (2018) MALE INFERTILITY DUE TO A BENIGN PROSTATIC POLYPJournal of Urology, VOL. 164, NO. 5, (1659-1660), Online publication date: 1-Nov-2000.Sogbein S and Steele A (2018) Papillary Prostatic Epithelial Hyperplasia of the Urethra: A Cause of Hematuria in Young MenJournal of Urology, VOL. 142, NO. 5, (1218-1220), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1989.Congleton L, Thomason W, McMullan D and Worsham G (2018) Painless Hematuria and Urethral Discharge Secondary to Ectopic ProstateJournal of Urology, VOL. 142, NO. 6, (1554-1555), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1989.Dejter S, Zuckerman M and Lynch J (2018) Benign Villous Polyp with Prostatic Type Epithelium of the Penile UrethraJournal of Urology, VOL. 139, NO. 3, (590-591), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1988.Foster R and Garrett R (2018) Congenital Posterior Urethral PolypsJournal of Urology, VOL. 136, NO. 3, (670-672), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1986.Eglen D and Pontius E (2018) Benign Prostatic Epithelial Polyp of the UrethraJournal of Urology, VOL. 131, NO. 1, (120-122), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1984.
