All patients underwent exploratory laparotomy for abdominal trauma and had associated urologic injuries, which were managed by conservative surgery. Forty-eight patients had non-expanding retroperitoneal hematoma and were treated expectantly. Nine patients needed exploration and drainage only, while 18 had some form of Tenorrhaphy. Four patients underwent repairs of renal pelvic injuries, 12 underwent partial nephrectomy and 11 underwent repairs of renal pedicle injuries. A conservative approach to renal trauma is emphasized. © 1977 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByALTMAN A, HAAS C, DINCHMAN K and SPIRNAK J (2018) SELECTIVE NONOPERATIVE MANAGEMENT OF BLUNT GRADE 5 RENAL INJURYJournal of Urology, VOL. 164, NO. 1, (27-31), Online publication date: 1-Jul-2000.Smith E, Elder J and Spirnak J (2018) Major Blunt Renal Trauma in the Pediatric Population: Is a Nonoperative Approach Indicated?Journal of Urology, VOL. 149, NO. 3, (546-548), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1993.Peterson N and Schulze K (2018) Selective Diagnostic Uroradiography for TraumaJournal of Urology, VOL. 137, NO. 3, (449-451), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1987.Krieger J, Algood C, Mason J, Copass M and Ansell J (2018) Urological Trauma in the Pacific Northwest: Etiology, Distribution, Management and OutcomeJournal of Urology, VOL. 132, NO. 1, (70-73), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1984.Bernath A, Schutte H, Fernandez R and Addonizio J (2018) Stab Wounds of the Kidney: Conservative Management in Flank PenetrationJournal of Urology, VOL. 129, NO. 3, (468-470), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1983.Pierce J (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 129, NO. 3, (470-470), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1983.Peterson N (2018) Apparent Exceptions to The Usual Patterns in Renal TraumaJournal of Urology, VOL. 121, NO. 4, (489-496), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1979.
