ResumoThree patients had kidney disorders and a history of long-continued and excessive intake of Worcestershire sauce. The one with the heaviest intake of sauce progressed to terminal renal failure, one presented with moderate renal failure which improved when the sauce was ceased, and one had bilateral and recurrent kidney stones and a non-specific aminoaciduria. In these and two other patients reported with this association, the response to the oral ammonium chloride test has been abnormal. It is suggested that excessive Worcestershire sauce can cause kidney damage affecting glomeruli and tubules.
