ResumoPosterior instability of the shoulder represents one of the more perplexing problems confronting orthopedic surgeons today. Most cases of this disorder are amenable to nonsurgical care. In those few instances in which surgical treatment may be necessary, optimal results may be achieved by careful attention to patient assessment, instability categorization, determination of the presence of co-existent ligamentous laxity, and appropriate surgical technique.
