Resumo

In order to determine the attitudes toward the unit dose system at the University of Kentucky Hospital, questionnaires were distributed to nurses, physicians and pharmacists. Nurses reported that a central, distribution system for medications decreased the possibility of medication errors and that the overall quality of both medical and nursing patient care improved. Physicians were the most skeptical of the unit dose system. Its basic deficiency was due to delays of both Stat and prn orders. In general, physicians felt that overall patient care improved, errors occurred less frequently and better controls were provided. Most felt the system is costly. Pharmacists favored having a more complete picture of patient therapy. This group indicated a positive feeling of greater efficiency and quality of patient care.
