ResumoThe municipio of Juan Cuamatzi, better known as San Bernardino Contla, is located on the eastern slopes of Le Malinche volcano in the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico. Contla is one of 42 independent municipios comprising the state of Tlaxcala. It is approximately seven miles long and an average of two and a half miles wide, and lies between the Tlaxcala-Teziutlan highway and the lower slopes of La Malinche. The municipio of Contla is territorially divided into several settlements, which include three pueblos and three pueblitos according to the Mexican census. The pueblos are San Bernardino Contla or Cabecera, San Miguel Xaltipac, and San Felipe Cuahutenco. The pueblitos are La Colonia Ocotlan (better know as Santa Maria Aquiahuac), San Jose Aztatla, and Sagrado Corazon Ixtlahuaca. For administrative purposes the municipio is divided into nine sections, each represented in the municipal council by a councilman.
