Resumo

Presentation of CaseA 41-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of aortic-valve disease.In his 20's he experienced repeated bouts of renal colic, without apparent residual damage. Twenty years before admission pain in the knees developed, and a biologic false-positive Wassermann test was found. Five years later there was the onset of polyarthritis, and a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis was made. A positive test for syphilis was again found, but a Treponema pallidum immobilization test was negative on two occasions. Six years before entry he underwent a course of gold therapy for 17 weeks; the treatment was terminated . . .
