ResumoIn this work we present a new method of automatic initialization for the active contours method denominated AUTOIN. This method is applied on computed tomography images of the lungs in healthy volunteers. The initial contours were assessed by the correlation (r2), between the point selected by the AUTOIN and the method of object center localization LCO for x and y axes of the right and left lungs. The obtained results by AUTOIN were for the right (r2 = 84%) and left (r2 = 93%) lungs for the x-axis and for the y-axis were the right (r2 = 40.5%) and left (r2 = 64.5%) lungs. Hence, we conclude that INAUTO is able to perform automatic initialization inside the lungs for active contours.
