ResumoCompartment syndrome in the hand and forearm is a serious and debilitating complication of crush injury. Pain with passive motion is the most reliable physical finding; however, compartment pressure measurement is the only truly reliable method of diagnosis. Immediate and adequate decompression will prevent the development of Volkmann's ischemic contracture and its associated severe loss of function in the affected extremity.
