ResumoThis paper describes the simulation of the flow-through single gauzes used in the regenerator of the Stirling cycle machine. The flow is modelled as a potential core outside a boundary layer developing along the surface of the wire comprising the gauze. Empirical relatione between the pressure loee coefficient, I, and Mach number, M, Reynolds number, Re, and the open area ratio of gauzes, u, are then obtained. The resulta ehow that f increasea with M before rcaching choking condition and the increase is sharp at choking. In the incompreseible flow regime, f decreases with increasing Re or u. These tendenciea arc similar to those observed in an earlier work in which the flow in the core was modelled as one dimell8ionaI. However, some differences exist between the reaults of theae two models.
